Eric Brown

Eric Brown, Senior Director of Research at GGPC and a director of the Robert M. Gates Initiative in American Statecraft at William & Mary, teaches in W&M’s Global Scholars program on international affairs, big power competition, and U.S. public policy and statecraft. Previously, he was senior research scientist at W&M’s Global Research Institute, where he studied Asia and geopolitical trends. He is also faculty guide to the GeoTech Initiative and a fellow with the Andrew W. Marshall Foundation. From 2004 to 2024 Brown was a senior fellow at Hudson Institute. There, he led research and wrote extensively on Asia, international history, defense and security issues, alternative futures, culture, institutional economics, demographic trends, and irregular competition. He has conducted policy research throughout Eurasia and parts of Africa, and in 2018 he was a senior advisor to the Task Force on Extremism in Fragile States. Brown serves on the governing board of the American University of Iraq at Sulaimani.
